EX-TRUCKER LEAVES SUCCESS BEHIND

Leland Martin has paid his dues behind the wheel, and he’s more than happy to sing about it.

Martin’s known for his clever debut single “If I Had Long Legs (Like Alan Jackson),” from Simply Traditional, his first album. Other songs show a strong acquaintance with trucking. There’s “Stone Cold Fingers,” a trucker’s lament, and “Ain’t No Speed Limit,” which has a “Buck Owens-inspired pedal-to-the-metal groove,” according to Martin’s publicist.

“Oh yeah, I’ve driven lots of trucks,” says Martin, who grew up in tiny Success, Mo., as the fourth of nine children raised by a single mother on welfare. “Not so much over-the-road trucking, but big dump trucks and hauling asphalt and all that.”

Even with short legs, it looks like one former trucker is in for a good run.

MOVIE VIOLATIONS

A Japanese trucker was arrested after videotaping under women’s skirts, reported the Mainichi Shimbun. “Filming up skirts is the only dealing I have with women,” Teppei Osugi told police.

The publication reports that in 2000 alone, Osugi had captured private shots from some 300 women, according to police. Too bad he couldn’t have settled for looking under truck hoods.
