International Unveils New Line of Engines

The International Truck and Engine Company has introduced a new inline, six-cylinder family of engines for its 4000, 7000 and 8500 series trucks.

The medium-duty engines, which will be available in the 2004 model trucks, feature International’s EVRT turbocharger, four valves per cylinder and an optional integrated engine brake. The company says EVRT will improve engine breathing and the valves will increase horsepower. The International I-6 family of engines, labeled DT 466, DT 570 and HT 570, feature cooled exhaust gas recirculation to meet current emission standards.

Other features of the new engine group, which is based on International’s VT 365 engine platform:

  • The EVRT turbo charger uses adjustable vanes within the turbo to optimize boost across the entire operating range, improving throttle response, power and torque.
  • The electro-hydraulic generation 2 (G2) fuel system offers precise timing for fuel delivery and has no high-pressure external lines, which might leak or rust.
  • And the G2 injectors are smaller, allowing enough room for four valves per cylinder.
The DT 466 is available in ratings of 210-300 horsepower and 520-860 foot-pounds of torque; the DT 570 provides 285-330 hp at 800-950 foot-pounds of torque; and the HT 570 revs up to 295-340 hp with 950-1150 foot pounds of torque.

The engines will be available in the spring.
