AMERICAN PRIDE

Dean Burington of Arlington, Iowa, says he is a longtime patriot, but the Sept. 11 attacks made him want a lasting tribute to his country on his 2001 Freightliner Columbia. The resulting mural, featuring a bald eagle and an American flag on both sides of the truck, clearly attests to Burington’s civic pride. Burington’s proud rig has a C-12 Caterpillar engine and an Eaton Fuller 10-speed smart shift. He is leased to Trans Star Trucking of Strawberry Point, Iowa.

OLD GLORY

Scott Simpson of Cheswick, Pa., has as much pride in the rig he drives for J&S Inc. of Allison Park, Pa., as he does in his country. These dual loves are evident in the 1998 Peterbilt 378 with a 410-hp Caterpillar that he washes, waxes and polishes weekly. As Simpson hauls pharmaceutical products across the nation, sparkling chrome frames the large American flag emblazoned on the grill. The interior of the rig is carpeted and is outfitted with a CD player, television, VCR, air-ride seat and all-chrome gauges.
