TLC for the Cats
The Catneys Express, owned by Beckwith Machining Co. of Murrysville, Pa., and driven by Brian Ammons of Horner, W.V., specializes in showing a little tender loving care to hard-working Caterpillar heavy equipment. The truck is a 1990 Peterbilt 375 with a box built by Elliot Bodyworks. Its powertrain consists of a 3306B Caterpillar, 7-speed Eaton transmission and 3:55 rears. A 25 LTD classic Cobra CB radio keeps the driver in touch as he travels through West Virginia maintaining equipment at coal mines, power stations and construction jobs.
Double trouble
These trucks are owned by Waldron Trucking Co. in Swanton, Ohio. Bryan Waldron and his family restored the red 1979 Peterbilt 359 and converted it from a semi-dump to a tandem dump truck. It has been in the family for 20 years. Besides adding an extended 127-inch hood and a fabricated interior overhead console, Waldron added custom chrome air intakes, cab shield and exhaust system. The blue 1980 Kenworth W900 was restored with new inner frame rails, an updated Cummins driveline and other additions. Both trucks haul asphalt, sand and stone.
Red rider
This 2001 Western Star model 4864 was purchased by brothers Peter and Gene Dube of Augusta, Maine. The truck has a 430-hp Cat C12 with an Eaton Fuller 8LL transmission, 46,000 Hendrickson air-ride and a 14,600-pound front axle. It has a custom-built 4,600-gallon aluminum tank with stainless steel side skirts. The brothers are co-owners of Pat Jackson Inc. & Tri-City Septic Service, a family business that their father started.
