AMERICAN, VIKING TO BECOME FEDEX FREIGHT

FedEx, Memphis, Tenn., is renaming two of its subsidiaries, American Freightways and Viking Freight, as FedEx Freight, beginning this month. Viking Freight, acquired in 1998, covers the West from its headquarters in San Jose, Calif.; American Freightways, acquired in 2001, covers the rest of the country from its headquarters in Harrison, Ark. Putting new logos on the equipment is expected to take up to three years. The renaming will cost $40 million.

Beltran of Dallas won his third consecutive Landstar Carrier Group truck driving rodeo.

Paschall Truck Lines, Murray, Ky., named Mike Taylor owner-operator of the month for January. Taylor was Paschall’s driver of the year in 1998.

CFI, Joplin, Mo., announced its December contractors of the month: Mike James of Kannapolis, N.C., and team drivers Gary and Nora Bulen of Monkey Island, Okla. CFI also announced its January contractors of the month: Efrain Gomez of Sabinal, Texas, and team drivers Ken Graven Sr. and Amanda Presley of Seagoville, Texas.

Sitton Motor Lines, Joplin, Mo., named owner-operator Rickey Lee of Joplin, Mo., its November driver of the month.
