KLLM Safe Drivers

KLLM Transport Services recently inducted five drivers into its Chairman’s Fleet and 17 drivers into its President’s Fleet at the company’s annual Million-Mile Awards Dinner.

New Chairman’s Fleet members are Cleveland Harris, Emanuel Jefferies, Joel Kringlen, Nancy Oxner and William Oxner.

New President’s Fleet members are Marvin Anderson, Guillermo Bustamante, Edward Campbell, James Carollo, Melvina Chaney, Merlin Cryer, Rose Fredette, Danny Howington, Vickie Green, Jose Lopez, Jr., Terry Matthews, Willie McNeil, Anthony Montesion, Edward Mullee, Raleigh Parthemore II, Timothy Shelton and Carl Singletary. Drivers must reach 1 million accident-free miles to be inducted into the President’s Fleet and 2 million accident-free miles for the Chairman’s Fleet.


Wheaton Honorees
Wheaton World Wide Moving recently honored 20 drivers for their selection as drivers of the month for May, June, July, August and September. May drivers: Bill Adams, Robert Corwin, Gregg Shandy and Thomas Stramara. June drivers: Ed Fetters, Michael Mather, Wilbur Pascoe and Robert Pritchard. July drivers: Vince Butler, Robert Krumpols, Joseph Pearce and Steven Williams. August drivers: Jerry Blair, Michael Erickson,Ken Ivey and Hector Longoria. September drivers: Butch Beaudin, Carl Carbone, John Sanders and Martin Sopko. Each honored driver received a cash award and a plaque, along with Driver of the Month uniform patches and equipment decals.


TripPak Deal
C.R. England announced an agreement with TMI to implement its advanced TripPak Online Enterprise software solution. TMI stores and can retrieve any paper document, the key to meeting shipper demands for proof of delivery and all related paperwork, while its commercial scanning operation works overnight to capture images. TripPak Online certifies electronic documents. These images drive invoicing, payroll processes and other functions that fleet administrators can view the next morning.


August’s Best
Paschall Truck Lines recently announced Rick Sherrard of Buffalo, Ky., as its Driver of the Month for August 2001. Sherrard has also been awarded the Million Mile Safe Driving Award and the Kentucky Colonel Award from the governor of Kentucky.


GEO Top Drivers
GEO Transportation has named Gerard Goebel of Evansville, Ind., Driver of the Month for September; Marc Woodall of Madisonville, Ky., Driver of the Month for October; and Bob Shouse of Evansville, Ind., Driver of the Month for November.

2001 Maine Driver
The Maine Professional Drivers Association named Ernest York of Mars Hill as its 2001 Driver of the Year. He started his driving career in 1955 and has hauled for McCain Foods of Easton for nearly 20 years. York has driven millions of miles and hasn’t had an accident since 1960. He represented Maine at the ATA national competition in 1996. York is a founding member of MPDA, which was formed in 1989 to promote safety, courtesy and professionalism in the trucking industry.


October Drivers
The Roberson Transportation family of companies announced its drivers for the month of October 2001. They include CX Roberson driver William Nelson, CX contractor James Hoffman, PFT Roberson driver George Perez, PFT contractor Dick Waymon and PFT team drivers Jonathan and Lisa Parsons.


Pay Increase
Landair Transport, Inc. of Greeneville, Tenn., announced a compensation increase for owner-operators, who will earn 83 cents per mile for loaded and empty miles.

The dry-van carrier now offers dedicated, no-touch freight in the Southeast with a program that includes a fuel surcharge, paid plates, permits, fuel, mileage tax and a 2 cent-per-mile safe driving bonus.


N.J. Champion
Ron Patacky, a Jevic Transportation Inc. driver, won the New Jersey State Truck Driving Championship at the American Trucking Associations National Truck Driving Championships. Patacky also won the state competition’s Triple Crown award for placing first in his class, winning the Rookie of the Year award and being named Grand Champion. This is the first time in the 47-year history of the competition that a driver has won all three divisions.


Quality Award
Landstar Logistics, Inc. and Landstar Ranger, Inc. both recently received a Logistics Management & Distribution Report 2001 Quest for Quality Award. Landstar Logistics, Inc. was one of five rail and intermodal companies in the Intermodal Marketing category and Landstar Ranger, Inc. was one of two truckload carriers in the Industrial and Heavy Haul category to earn the readers’ choice awards.


CFI Pay Raise
Contract Freighters Inc. of Joplin, Mo., announced it will increase the amount paid to owner-operator drivers by 2 cents per mile. The increase raises the base pay for owner-operators to 82 cents per mile. The increase was to take effect Jan. 1, with renewal of the contract hauling agreements. Productivity incentives will still be added.


Safe Drivers
Landstar has recognized one Three Million, four Two Million and 35 One Million Mile Safe Drivers. Three Million: Franklin Burnett. Two Million: David Myles, John “Tip” Nunn, Arthur Trezise and Jimmy Wingfield.

One Million: Claude Ashby, Randy Bowman, Nathan Bryan, William Chamberlin, Dennis Depoy, Wayne Dougherty, David Dunn, David Edinger, Martin David Fisher, Jerry Gentry, Ronald Gibson, Norris Jeffers, Roy Johnson, John Carson Kratzer, Gary Larson, Othie Lloyd, Howard Lockaby, Arnold Minot, Terry Mitchell, Ralph Moore, Billy Osborne, Michael Podraza, Emil Radtke, Kenneth Rasmussen, Charles Remington, Robert Ritchey, Glen Rylott, Francis Marion Short, Floyd Stanbery, Oscar Roy Sweeney, Steven Douglas Tillett, Joey Victory, Ronald Walker, Howard White and Herman Winn. The 40 drivers were honored for their exemplary driving records at an awards banquet in Jacksonville, Fla.


CFI Drivers of the Month
Contract Freighters Inc. recently honored its September 2001 drivers of the month.

Company Driver of the Month was Eduardo Velarde, who joined CFI 12 years ago and lives in Webb City, Mo. Company Team of the Month was awarded to Stacy and Donna Moran of Granbury, Texas. Stacy joined CFI in 1995; Donna followed in 1998. Contractor Driver of the Month went to John Newkirk from Jay, Okla., who has driven with CFI for six years. Contractor Team of the Month was Craig Brandon and Idona Bailey, who live in Truth or Consequences, N.M. Craig joined CFI in 1990; Idona joined four years later. Winners are automatically nominated for the 2001 year-end award in their respective category.
