Leased operator wins photo contest

Alan Dunham captured this shot in Oklahoma.

This sunset, witnessed “at the trailing edge of what were tornado-like forces running across Oklahoma on July 5, 2010,” says the photographer, owner-operator Alan Dunham, leased to C.R. England, “is one of many fond memories I’ve been blessed with during my short time as an over-the-road driver.”

Dunham, an avid photographer who’s been leased with C.R. England for four years, had sat out threatening high winds, rain and hail before the storm passed. He said he “was fortunate to have a camera at hand as this beautiful sunset made a brief appearance and then quickly faded into the night.”

Dunham’s shot wins Truckers News’ March “Fuel Islands” photo contest. He receives a copy of Bryan Peterson’s Understanding Shutter Speed, as well as publication in the May edition of the magazine.

The 53-year-old says he always runs with “one or two cameras in the truck. I’ve been doing photography my whole life, ever since I was a little kid.”

Formerly a small-business owner in groceries, Dunham turned to trucking a few years ago and says he’s found his calling running refrigerated freight in his 2009 Volvo VN780. “As tough as this industry is, [C.R.] England has definitely delivered. I can’t complain about anything – except if you can complain about being too busy. I got myself in a really good niche, and I’m really happy. I really enjoy it. Life’s been very good to me.”
