Life support

In the tough economy you have to deal with, you can use all the help you can get. I’m confident in saying that some of your best support is the news, advice and other information found between the covers of this magazine.

I’ve known this for a long time, but it’s good to get outside recognition of the same. Overdrive received that recently from the American Society of Business Publication Editors.

We’re particularly proud of two awards. For the third time in eight years, Overdrive was named a Magazine of the Year finalist. And in a special competition noting ASBPE’s 30th anniversary, Overdrive was named one of the top 11 business-to-business magazines since 2000. You won’t find any other trucking magazines on either list.

Our other awards, ranking Gold or runner-up status:

  • First Place Best Annual Buyers Guide for our 2008 Spec Guide, produced largely by former Managing Editor Steven Mackay and Art Director Kenneth Stubbs.
  • Best Special Section for the “Slow Ride” coverage of the proposal to govern trucks at 68 mph, by several editors.
  • Best News Analysis, Andy Duncan’s “Crossing the line” in our group of stories about cross-border trucking.
  • Best Original Research, Todd Dills’ “Creatures of Habit.” This used data from the 2007 Overdrive Owner-Operator Market Behavior Report to determine seven key practices of high-earning owner-operators.
  • Best Staff-Written Column, Max Heine’s “Dollars & Sense.”

I know you’re working hard to stay afloat these days. What will set you apart is working smart, too, and the information our editors provide will help you do just that.
