Last week’s episode of the History Channel’s “Ice Road Truckers” was more of the same with late season trips across softening roads, writes Overdrive sister site Truckers News Editor David Hollis in his weekly recap.

Todd Dewey spent his birthday by himself as he was forced to wait 12 hours before a nearly-thawed road reopened.

Lisa Kelly noticed smoke coming from under her hood, and after stopping to investigate, found a small fire. Kelly grabbed her fire extinguisher and put the fire out before it grew too much, and found that her truck’s exhaust had been caked with thawed muskeg, which had dried enough to catch fire.

Steph Custance hit the ice for the first time by herself. She’s able to navigate across one of the longest ice roads, a 10-mile trek across a snow-covered lake.

Darrell Ward takes a “nearly impossible” three-drop run to the small First Nation villages in northern Manitoba, Canada.
