Mack Trucks became the second manufacturer to receive certification for meeting the October emissions standards, when the Environmental Protection Agency approved its highway ASET engines. The engines use exhaust gas recirculation to reduce emissions.
The Pennsylvania-based truck maker has already received certification on the vocational version on its new engines. The EPA had certified six of Mack’s vocational ranges, with the seventh to be introduced later this year, said company spokesman Bob Martin.
The new highway engines will be about 100 pounds heavier and will be competitive in price to other engine manufacturer’s estimate of costing $3,000 to $5,000 more, he said.
