Fuel Costs. Want a sure-fire way to put more money in your pocket by controlling your fuel expenses? First, slow down — for every mile per hour you drive over 60, you reduce your fuel economy by one-tenth of a gallon per mile. Second, keep your rig in top running order. Preventative maintenance can hurt your fuel efficiency. Third, stick to your routes. Most owner-operators log 6 to 12 percent of annual miles that are unnecessary.

Custom Rigs is coming!

Love trucks? Custom Rigs, a new magazine from the publishers of Overdrive, is dedicated to that breed of trucker whose rig is not just their livelihood, but a rolling expression of pride. Debuting this month, each issue will highlight the nation’s most tricked-out rigs, with features detailing step-by-step makeovers done by individual owner-operators and the nation’s most-respected customizers. Look for it soon at Petro Stopping Centers and at the Mid-America Trucking Show.
