Maryland cuts rest stop hours

Responding to budget cuts, Maryland’s Highway Administration has closed one rest area and reduced operating hours at several others.

Bathrooms are closed for good at the Cove Overlook rest area on U.S. 219.

On Interstate 68, bathrooms at Sideling Hill will be closed from January through April while the Youghiogheny Overlook’s hours are restricted to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

On U.S. 301, the Bay Country rest area is now open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Crain Memorial Welcome Center is open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The U.S. 13 North Welcome Center is cut back to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Welcome centers on I-95 south and I-95 north remain open 24 hours. Welcome centers on I-70 east and I-70 west are closed for remodeling and scheduled to reopen in fall 2010.
