The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) named driver Daniel Sieczkarski, of Rochester, New York, a Highway Angel for rescuing a fellow trucker from rising floodwaters on April 18 outside of Houston, Texas.

Sieczkarski, who drives for Melton Truck Lines, Inc., was on Interstate 10 when he saw another truck stuck in floodwater with the driver still inside. He partnered with another motorist and used tubing and a life vest to reach the driver. He convinced the driver his rig was in a precarious situation and evacuation was necessary.

Sieczkarski then helped the stuck driver swim to dryer land. Just an hour after he rescued the driver, the other driver’s truck was fully submerged under floodwater.

He said he rescued the other driver because he didn’t want the family to suffer any loss.

“I lost my wife three years ago and I didn’t know if that driver had a wife and family, but if he did, I didn’t want his family to go through what I had gone through,” Sieczkarski said. Sieczkarski has been trucking for 14 years.
