Mexican carriers fare well on safety data

| August 08, 2013

mexicoUntitled-1Long-haul and drayage Mexican carriers entering the United States have generally lower out-of-service rates than their American counterparts, according to current federal data.

While ten of the 12 Mexican carriers in Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration cross-border pilot program had OOS orders, the percentage rates for most is lower than national average for U.S. carriers. Also, data gathered on both program participants and Mexican companies limited to border drayage showed a progressive drop in OOS orders since 1993, according to a June congressional report.

None of the carriers in the current program have driver OOS rates exceeding the U.S. average of 4.9 percent. One company was the sole participant with a higher OOS vehicle rate than the U.S. rate of nearly 21 percent.

The driver OOS rate was 0.61 percent for Transportes Monteblanco, 0.26 percent for Service De Transporte International Y Local and 3.8 percent for Servicios Refrigerados Internacionales. The vehicle OOS rate was 22.2 percent of Baja Express Transportes and 20 percent for Transportes Del Valle De Guadalupe.

Only one carrier, Transportes Olympic, received OOS ratings in both categories, with nearly 4.3 percent average for drivers and a 3.3 percent rate for vehicles.

Last month, the agency announced it would admit a 13 carrier to the program, Sergio Tristan Maldonado, DBA Tristan Transfer.

Five participants have satisfactory compliance reviews as well as permanent authority. Of these, three had already been in the FMCSA’s 2007–2009 program for Mexican carriers. The trio received credit for that time in calculating the 18-month provisional operating authority period.

Transportes Olympic had its compliance review in 2009 and the other four underwent CR early last spring.

The recently released report on data gathered on Mexican carriers at the Southern border noted a decrease in OOS orders had occurred over the previous year for most years. The report summarized data from bus and truck companies by fiscal year and did not separate numbers by vehicle type.

In FY 1993, the average OOS rate was close to 25 percent for drivers and almost 51 percent for vehicles. But for 2011, the most FY listed, that rate was little more than .9 and 16 percent respectively. During this time period, truck and bus entering the United States from Mexico increased 101 percent.

The agency’s check of CDLs from FY 2004-201 indicated 98.3 percent had valid CDLs for the first year, but dropped slightly to 98.2 percent in the last year of the FMCSA’s data.

On July 26, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia rejected the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association’s and the Teamsters union’s petitions for rehearings after the court ruled the FMCSA pilot program could continue.

So, how they are actually doing would depend on who you talk to, apparently.

We can not trust the reports, or this corrupt government. A government that has gone easy on Mexicans, minorities, & other foreigners in our country. The are making decrees that protect them from our laws. They are providing cheap/slave type labor in the form of 3rd world savages, to break Americans & our way of living. If you don’t believe just look at So CA & CA in general. CA is a portal, a gateway for these 3rd worlders allowed to flood in by the CA government & federal government as well. We can not trust that all foreigners are being cited, or let go. We have, not just a serious problem, we have been put in danger.

Driver Out Of Service 61%?? That is Astonishingly High!!
That company is Out Of Control…..insane to have those maniacs on U.S. Highways…….I dont believe they allow that company to operate heavy equipment in America.

  • No Reform

No American trucking company operates with a Driver Out of Service rate of 26% and 61% as these mexican companies are getting away with. This is an OUTRAGE!!

  • No Reform

Danger for sure! 30% of our prison population is illegal aliens and 90% of the Murder warrants in Phoenix and Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.

  • Sedsaid

CSA,DOT are joke in all this. They are not here for safety, They are only here for money not safety and it’s a joke.

  • No Reform

This is proof positive that FMCSA is bought and paid for to cripple the American Worker and open the floodgates for cheap labor foreigners.

  • Mike Smith

Who’s paying them off or bribing or manipulating the government. Corporations that have had their taxes cut, and who don’t pay for the policing like they use to. “Que bono”, who benifits? The corporations, government, government employees hired to monitor, cite, & arrest, medical facilities that test us violating our rights.

  • No Reform

Look up these Clowns on FMCSA…they are driving JUNK..one company got 81 CSA points during a routine inspection…and they have 2 Alerts on their File and the team could Not read or speak English!!!

  • No Reform

Rather Un nerving…knowing these Kooks are driving on our highways ENCOURAGED by our COPS?? This one company got yanked in for inspection and neither of the team drivers could Read or Speak English enuff to Communicate…yet they are running 48 States??

  • No Reform

This Transporte Olympic data from FMCSA says they have 2 citations for driver cant communicate or Read English.
Another citation..Driver has No LICENSE???? Well that’s is just Dandy….free to go???

  • No Reform

Reading the CSA reports on these Mexican carriers is Hilarious….those trucks should have stayed in the yard.
    The “drivers” are a JOKE.

  • Mike Smith

Agreed, strongly. The media propaganda machine, controlled by the corporations, intentionally, does not INFORM us, of the overwhelming number of illegal Mexican aliens, minorities, in our country. Mexicans in the biggest truck town in CA, Fontana, have over run the trucking business. Almost ALL the trucks have Mexican family names on them. The flood into Arizona driving down rates. You id Phx & L.A.. It’s not just LA it runs from L.A. east to include any area that can be populated. Las Vegas is has almost as big a pop. as whites. Minorities are a large part of the population. When I went to the Truck Show 2011, at the Sands Hotel/Conv Center, in Vegas, I didn’t see any whites working in the Sands for the Sands. Not one. This is an attack that is being hidden & spreading.

Wasn’t it just last week there was an article in here about some of them being shut down or put out of service.

  • Mike Smith

Fox News tonight, 8/8/12, just said that it is believed that there are people in congress who are being paid to vote for Amnesty by the Mexican Cartels. I would go further. I believe the Mexican government & corporations are funneling money them also. This goes right along with what were reading here.

  • No Reform

That does sound Logical. Corruption is a way of life in Mexico. Our Congress and the FMCSA is getting into BED with Mexico on many many issues.
Driving OUR country into the SEWER..to the JOY of Russia and China..and others who would like America Destroyed by any means necessary.

  • Bigmarv1

Mike Smith, when you say that a government has gone easy on minorities, what minorities are you referring to? Do you mean the illegal minorities that cross the border illegally? Or do you mean minorities that are born and raised here in the United States(like African Americans) for instance that this government has gone so easy on?

Evidently DOT inspectors don’t go to the docks along the Mexican border (no. side of Rio Grande River) where Mexican trucks cross the river and pick up loads delivered there by trucks from up North. Keep in mind only one of the dock workers could speak or understand our American English. The rest would come across the border and go through the hole in the fence behind the dock. I pulled a reefer for 3 months going to Laredo and McAllen and a joke of a Mexican truck held together by bailing wire, duck tape, and a prayer would back in beside me. They would unload me directly into the Mexican truck whose reefer wasn’t there or didn’t work. At least half the tires would be bald and brakes were anybody’s guess. Heaven help anybody who got in their way. If I would have gotten caught driving one of those things they called a truck, I would still be in jail. (This is 7 1/2 years later). Tell me we are not racially profiled as white, male, Americans. And by the way the Mexicans always were unloaded first.
Don’t forget it is profiling when ANY group are singled out.
WE WERE WARNED TO NEVER CROSS THE RIO BECAUSE THEY WOULD CONFISCATE THE TRUCK UNTIL AFTER IT WAS STRIPPED. WE WERE TOLD TO STOP IF YOU SAW THE CROSSING GATES EVEN IF IT BLOCKED TRAFFIC.
