Michigan: Nightly I-94 closure starts Friday, more highway haps

I-94The next phase of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) project to reconstruct the I-94 Business Loop (Columbia Avenue) bridge over I-94 at Exit 92 is scheduled to start on Friday, July 17.

To accommodate bridge removal, I-94 will be closed nightly from 10 p.m. Friday through 8 a.m. Saturday, 9 p.m. Saturday through 10 a.m. Sunday, and 10 p.m. Sunday through 6 a.m. Monday, with traffic rerouted onto the Exit 92 and back to the interstate. A temporary ramp has been constructed from eastbound I-94 to Michigan Avenue.

**The EB I-94 ramp to SB Mercury Drive, and the WB I-94 ramp to NB I-94 BL (Columbia Avenue) will remain open for most of the project. However, two-week closures will be needed to reconstruct each ramp.
**The SB Columbia Avenue ramp to WB I-94 will remain open throughout construction. The NB Mercury Drive ramp to EB I-94 will be open for most of the project, with a two-week closure for reconstruction.
**The EB I-94 ramp to NB I-94 BL (Columbia Avenue) will be detoured to I-194/M-66 Exit 98.
**The WB I-94 ramp to southbound Mercury Drive will be detoured to Michigan Avenue Exit 88.

Weather permitting, bridge reconstruction is scheduled to be complete with lanes and ramps reopened to traffic by Monday, Sept. 7.
