Montana Trucker Becomes First Woman ATA Driver of the Year

Doris Hansen, a professional truck driver leased to Quality Transportation, Inc. of Baker, Mont., has been named the American Trucking Associations 2003 National Driver of the Year.

Hansen is the first woman ever to receive the award. She has been a truck driver for more than 30 years and has more than 3 million safe miles. Hansen was recognized Oct. 1 at an ATA conference in Jacksonville, Fla. and again on Oct. 20 at the ATA Management Conference and Exhibition in San Antonio, Texas.

Some of Hansen’s accident-free miles came when she and husband John worked as a team. Quality Transportation is a flatbed carrier, and operates a conventional three axle tractor and 48-foot flatbed trailer, hauling general freight. Since signing up at Quality in 1987, she has never had a cargo loss or damage claim. Hansen has won numerous safety and industry awards throughout her career and was named Montana Motor Carriers 2002-2003 Driver of the Year.

The ATA Driver of the Year Award is sponsored by Custard Insurance Adjusters.
