National average diesel price hits lowest point since November

The national average price for a gallon of on-highway diesel fell 2.5 cents in the week ended July 21 to $3.869, according to the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration.

That’s the biggest price drop since the week ended Nov. 11 (another 2.5-cent drop), and the lowest the national average price of diesel has been since the week ended Nov. 25.

This is also the third consecutive week the price of diesel has declined.

Compared to the same week last year, the price of diesel is down 3.4 cents.

All regions in the U.S. also had a price drop, led by the Central Atlantic’s 3.7-cent drop, the East Coast’s 3.3-cent drop and the Lower Atlantic’s 3-cent drop.

California again had the country’s most expensive diesel, $4.096, followed by New England’s $4.052 and the Central Atlantic’s $4.014. All other regions were below the $4 mark.

The Gulf Coast had the nation’s cheapest diesel, $3.773, followed by the Midwest’s $3.810 and the Lower Atlantic’s $3.836.
