William Fay will become the next president and CEO of NATSO, the national trade association representing America’s travel plazas and truckstops.
Fay will begin his new position this month, NATSO announced after a unanimous vote at its October Board of Directors meeting in Chicago.
NATSO’s president of 15 years, W. Dewey Clower, is retiring at the end of this year.
Fay, who heads the American Highway Users Alliance, has spent more than 20 years in Washington as a trade association executive and Senate staff member. While serving as the national spokesperson for AHUA, Fay administered coalition efforts to secure a 44 percent increase in highway funding.
Fay also greatly expanded the membership of AHUA, helped lead lobbying efforts in support of a firewall to protect the Highway Trust Fund and coordinated the national campaign to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Interstate Highway System.
The alliance’s coalition members include some truck manufacturers and other trucking-related entities.
“With Bill’s extensive experience as an energetic leader and strong advocate in Washington, I have no doubt that he will aggressively protect and advance NATSO’s interests,” said NATSO Chairman James B. Goetz, who led the presidential search committee. “His proven leadership and impressive coalition-building skills will certainly strengthen our association.”
