Navistar International Corp. announced this week that its proprietary MaxxForce 13-liter engine equipped with selective catalytic reduction exhaust aftertreatment technology has been certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as meeting current NOx emissions standards.

The certification is part of the truck and engine maker’s ongoing transition from EGR-only engines to SCR-based engines. They announced a partnership with Cummins last summer, in which they discontinued the proprietary 15-liter MaxxForce in favor of using Cummins’ ISX15 and announced they would be using Cummins’ aftertreatment systems on the 13-liter engines.

Navistar also announced this week that its board of directors has named Jack Allen as its new Chief Operating Officer. Allen has been with the company since 1981, when he started as a design engineer. He’s headed the company’s trucks and parts divisions since last year.
