HYBRID TRUCK
Peterbilt’s new Class 7 Model 335 features hybrid-electric technology that could cut fuel use by 40 percent and trim maintenance costs. It is outfitted with a fully integrated bucket lift body. The parallel hybrid system uses an electric motor to assist the mechanical diesel engine with extra torque. The system stores energy during braking to be reused for acceleration and stores energy during idling to power the PTO.

Peterbilt also is introducing a Model 320 that features hydraulic launch assist hybrid technology. The Class 8 vehicle is spec’d for refuse applications.

IMPROVED APU
The enhanced ComfortPro APU now has a 60-amp alternator that provides 50 percent more power than the original. The oil service interval has been doubled to 1,000 hours, thanks to a larger reservoir and new filter. A switch to R-134a refrigerant allows for simpler service. Additional improvements include a new condenser with a fin-and-tube design, a thermostatic expansion valve rather than a capillary tube mechanism, and a low-pressure sensor that shuts down in the event of a refrigerant leak.
