FREIGHTLINER INTRODUCES ADDITION TO ITS M2 LINE
Freightliner presented its M2 106V business-class, medium-duty truck at the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas. Its heavy-duty front end offers more stability, power take-off and up to 24-inch frame extensions. The standard engine is a 6.4-liter Mercedes-Benz MBE 906 with up to 260 hp and 700 pounds-feet of torque. The 330-hp, 7.2-liter MBE 926 and the Caterpillar C7 and C9 are options. Transmissions include Eaton Fuller manual, Allison automatic and Mercedes-Benz Automated Shift.
Freightliner also announced a new idling alternative system with HVAC and auxiliary generators as factory options on the Century Class, Coronado, Classic and Classic XL, and interior upgrades for many Class 8 models.

ENGINE PROTECTION
Dieselcraft Fluid Engineering’s supplemental fuel cleaning system helps protect engines with Racor or original equipment fuel filters. The two-stage system removes 99 percent of water and 95 percent of solids in the first stage and sub-micron contaminants and bacteria in the second stage, the company says. The system works on 0.25-, 0.375- and 0.5-inch fuel lines.

FREIGHT WING’S FAIRINGs CUT FUEL CONSUMPTION
The Freight Wing Aerodynamic System, developed with a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, streamlines dry vans to improve fuel economy by as much as 7 percent, the company says. The fairings mount on the trailer’s front, sides and rear.

Peterbilt now offers 600-hp and 625-hp Caterpillar C15s in the 127-inch 379 and Special Edition 379X models. Allison automatic transmissions with heavy-duty Cummins and Cat engines are also available for 385, 378 and 357 models.

MICHELIN’S EXPANDS XZY LINE
Michelin America has added the 315/80R22.5 XZY3 LRL to its XZY line. XZY3 tires are all-position radials for on- and off-road use. The 23/32-inch tread depth increases tread life, mileage and durability. Compared to the XZY2, the XZY3 has 11 percent more tread volume through a 5 percent tread width increase, a 4 percent tread depth increase and a 2 percent contact area increase. The XZY3’s new co-extruded tread compound protects against aggression, chipping and scaling and keeps the crown area cool for better retreading.

INTERNATIONAL’S NEW CXT
Navistar International Corp.’s new CXT is built on the same platform as dump trucks and snowplows and shares their capability, size and appearance. It hauls three times more than standard pickups, has all-wheel drive, air brakes, and towing and dumping abilities. The CXT has International’s 220-hp DT 466 engine with 540 lb.-ft. of torque, an Allison 2000 Series automatic transmission, and standard cab air suspension. The crew cab seats five. Options include color, air seats, flat screen televisions and satellite radio.

HENDRICKSON BOX FOR WIDE SINGLES
Hendrickson now has a 54-inch wide box in its Vantraax family of slider suspension systems to accommodate wide-based single tires. Replacing duals with a single tire using the Vantraax system could save more than 350 pounds per trailer, depending on the options selected. The wide box has a 40,000-pound capacity with 831/2-inch axle track. Vantraax uses the Intraax air suspension system and K-2 technology for durability and weight savings.
