MORE FLEETS INCREASE PAY
ROEHL TRANSPORT and MARTEN TRANSPORT have announced compensation increases. Roehl increased mileages rate 2 to 3 cents, plus increasing intermediate stop and detention pay.
The increases, effective Feb. 4, will add $2,300 to $3,450 to drivers’ annual salaries. Roehl has also continued to work closely with shippers to reduce driver downtime with more drop-and-hook loads and fewer intermediate stops.
Marten’s pay will rise to 84 cents per mile for all independent contractors and lease-purchase drivers, effective April 1.
TRIPLE CROWN GROWTH
TRIPLE CROWN SERVICES CO. has announced plans to invest over $21 million in equipment, expansion and new jobs in 2004. The transportation company, headquartered in Fort Wayne, Ind., will acquire 800 new trailers, double the size of its local terminal and maintenance facility, begin service to the Minneapolis area and add 15 jobs.

MAVERICK TRANSPORTATION announced its fourth quarter Driver of the Month honors: October Driver of the Month, Keith Williams of Clarksville, Tenn.; November Driver of the Month, Timothy Allen of Springfield, Mo.; and December Driver of the Month, Gerry Pierson of Carthage, Mo.

CONTRACT FREIGHTERS INC. recently announced its Drivers of the Year, who received $1,000 and other prizes.
Jerry West, of Kerrville, Texas, was named Company Driver of the Year. Jay Van Wormer, who lives in Springdale, Ark., was awarded the Contractor Driver of the Year. Bob and Beverly Mann of Henderson, Nev., were named the Company Team of the Year. Stacy and Donna Moran of Granbury, Texas, were named Contractor Team of the Year. CFI also named its November Drivers of the Month.
Company Driver of the Month was Buster Wilder of El Paso, Texas. Company Driver Team of the Month was Butch and Dora Colvin of Udall, Kan. Contractor of the Month was James Matthews of Oklahoma City.
The Morans were named Contractor Team of the Month.
BUSKE LINES INC. announced its Drivers of the Year. The first place winner was Charles Segrest of Vandalia, Ill. Second place went to Terry Smith of Dorchester, Ontario, Canada, and third place was given to Sheldon Ray of Magnolia, Texas.
The Owner-Operator of the Year was John Parker of Conroe, Texas. Local Driver of the Year was Corey Raper of Cahokia, Ill. The Rookie of the Year was James Bobbitt of Granite City, Ill. Matthew Nance of Kalamazoo, Mich., was named Dedicated Fleet Driver of the Year.
Prizes included $500 to $1,000 cash awards, one week’s use of a time-share condominium, watches, rings and company jackets. The Owner-Operator of the Year receives free plates and permits for a year.
LONG HAUL TRUCKING’S 2003 Top 10 Club winners – the single drivers who had the most revenue – were Jerry Carroll, Ken Cutright, Dale Klodt, Harry Rybacki, Terry Jones, Carl Roop, Bill Lathrop, Dan Madson, Scott Johnson and Drew Mattson. The Top Company Driver Award went to Jerry Carroll, who won a free trip to NASCAR races in Las Vegas.
The Harry Slimmer Scholarship was given to April Radloff, the daughter of Long Haul owner-operators Glen and Rita Radloff.
Long Haul presented diamond rings to nine of its drivers for achieving 1 million safe miles in 2003: Al Stocker, Bill Lathrop, Dale Klodt, Dean Bodeker, Dale Mason, Marge Mason, John Tobar, Glen Radloff and Kim Vowels.
The 2003 Top Revenue Team Drivers Award went to Dale and Marge Mason.
The 2003 King of the Road Award was given to Drew Mattson.
Recruiting drivers paid off for MAVERICK driver Gary Lipscomb, who was awarded the 2003 Referral Winner of the Year. Lipscomb, of Oak Hill, W.Va., will receive a vacation valued at $1,700, a week of paid vacation, and $500 cash for his vacation.
