CARRIERS INCREASE COMPENSATION
Several carriers announced pay hikes for owner-operators and company drivers.
All Freight Systems raised its owner-operator pay to 91 cents per mile. The 3-cent increase is paid on loaded and unloaded miles. Drivers who choose percentage pay will receive 70 percent outbound and 80 percent inbound pay on all freight.
Transport America will phase in owner-operator pay of 92 cents per mile, loaded and empty. The line-haul rate increased by a penny July 1, and will do so again Sept. 1 and Nov. 1.
Epes Transport System will pay owner-operator teams $1.10 per mile, plus a fuel surcharge of 23.8 cents per mile. Company driver team pay is 50 cents per mile, plus a 2-cent safety bonus and a guaranteed minimum $1,000 weekly paycheck.
Heartland Express raised company driver pay in its Jacksonville, Fla., facility to 43 cents per mile. The company also increased pay for hazmat-endorsed drivers by a penny per mile.
PANTHER OFFERING OVERSIZED SERVICE
Panther Expedited Services has added flatbed capacity to its new Panther Elite Services Group. The company now will haul standard and oversized freight that must be loaded by a crane or from the top or side. The Seville, Ohio, company also is offering security escorts.
RYDER NAMES TOP CARRIERS
Ryder System announced its top carrier selections for the 2005 Ryder Carrier Quality Award: Con-Way Western Express, Contract Freighters, Empire Truck Lines, Estes Express Lines, EXEL Global Logistics, Hanjin Shipping, New England Motor Freight, Pilot Air Freight, PJAX Freight System, Riley Whittle, Roadway Express, Southeastern Freight Lines, Trans Provincial Freight Carrier, Triple Crown Services and TST Overland Express.
OREGON HAULER WINS BIG-JOB AWARDS
Emmert International of Clackamas, Ore., won two prizes at the Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association’s Hauling Job of the Year awards.
In the Over-160,000 Net Pounds category, Emmert won for delivering two identical 626,000-pound heat exchangers from Houston to Canada.
In the Under-160,000 Net Pounds category, Emmert won for moving 66 gas pipe modules from Texas to Detroit.
LANDSTAR NAMES ITS ROADSTARS
Landstar Systems recognized 18 owner-operators as Roadstars, its lifetime achievement award.
Recent inductees were: Allan Biedowicz, Kenneth Bramm, Rollie Clark, Bernard Collins, Avery Dean Sr., Earl Eaton, Jack Grayson, James Hibbs, Harold Hortin, Kenneth Johnston, Burt McKinney Jr., John Nunn, Kenneth Rasmussen, Charles Shelton Jr., Timothy Snyder, David Sutherland, Jeff Thompson and Philip Wensko.
AWARDS & RECOGNITION
PASCHALL TRUCK LINES honored its March Drivers of the Month: David Molesworth, company driver, and Mark Hatfield, owner-operator. Both men previously won the honor.
TMC TRANSPORTATION named Chuck Spurr its Driver of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2006.
GRAEBEL COS. announced its Drivers of the Year: Tim and Lisa Shebelski of Mosinee, Wis.
TRANSPORT AMERICA honored Keith Loging with its One Million Mile Accident-Free Safety Award. It also named six men as April 2006 Drivers of the Month: Philip Alestri, Robert Buzzell, Alberto Cruz, Troy Kasprowicz, Tim Taylor and Clyde Turvey.
DECKER TRUCK LINE named its May 2006 Drivers of the Month: James Rowe, flatbed; Darrel Schaffner, reefer/van.
WARREN TRANSPORT named owner-operator Andres Robles its June Driver of the Month.
