Marten increases per-mile pay
Marten Transport increased settlement rates for owner-operators by 2 cents per mile on an already graduated scale. “Being able to increase our settlement rate at this time and offer consistent freight and miles is evidence of Marten’s stability and long-term planning,” says Tim Norlin, the fleet’s recruiting director.


Old Dominion Freight Lines expands, relocates
The U.S. Based in Thomasville, N.C., Old Dominion Freight Lines Inc., opened an 80-door, 20-acre service center in October at 6 Pioneer Dr., Worcester, Mass., and the less-than-truckload super regional carrier relocated its Columbia, Mo., service facility to a 34-door, 10-acre site at 550 N. Tradewind Parkway.


HONORS
FFE Transportation Services recognized truckers who have driven 1 million miles. Owner-operators Terri Crank and Tommy Crank, American Eagle drivers James Cavezza and James Ellard, and FFE company drivers Donald Grashot and Thomas Holibaugh each received mementos. Lester Johnston, a 42-year FFE veteran who recently announced his retirement, was honored along with Wendy Wilborn for driving more than 4 million miles accident free.

Maverick Transportation honored Billy Daniels, Dale Dunn and Warren Scott for achieving 2 million miles of safe driving. Maverick’s Drivers of the Month for the second and third quarters of 2008 are Jerry Bass, Allen Coley, Ben Eby, Mac Freese, Van Horn and Michael Massaro.


Expansions
Cookeville, Tenn.-based Averitt Express recently opened a 123-door, 52,000-square foot service center at 5887 Fulton Industrial Blvd. in Atlanta.

Dry van, refer and flatbed manufacturer Utility Tri-State, Inc. has relocated to a larger service facility comprising more than 8,800 square feet near Oklahoma City.

Bolt Express LLC added Bolt Express Truckload, which provides truckload services in North America and Mexico, and Bolt Logistics Mexico, which makes deliveries, stores and brokers freight across the border and within Mexico.

Southeastern Freight Lines expanded operations in Mexico and opened a 30,000-square-foot, 46-door warehouse in Laredo, Texas.

Cookeville, Tenn.-based Averitt Express honored John Ashford Jr., Curtis Burkhead, William Coulter, Dexter Crawford, Danny Goode, Jim Granner, Willard Hatley, John Kelley, Larry Light, Jerry Merrell, George Oliver, Walter Parker, Mike Sandor, Bobby Schultz and Ernest Shoemaker for 20 years of safe driving.
