Not a healthy Subway choice
My husband feels virtuous because he eats at Subway when he’s on the road. He says, “If it’s good enough for Jared, it’s good enough for me.” I disagree. His favorite sub is the Meatball Pepperoni Melt. I contend that just the name itself screams, “heart attack!” My husband is 55 years-old, 50 pounds overweight and has high blood pressure.
He reads you all the time and may listen to what you have to say. (He sure as heck doesn’t listen to me!)
The sodium content of the Meatball Pepperoni Melt is 1,560 milligrams! The 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend limiting sodium to less than 1,500 mg PER DAY if you’re age 51 or older, or if you are black, have high blood pressure, diabetes or chronic kidney disease. In one big gulp, your husband is consuming more than a day’s worth of sodium. The 600 calories and 29 grams of fat are a ridiculous waste of a good meal. Can he make healthy choices at Subway? Absoulutely! Can you make him? No. Can I make him? No. The way I look at it is that we have to make our own health choices. My job is to give you the facts. I would like to shame him into making better choices but in my experience, that doesn’t ever work. Not even on my dog.
So there ya go.
