TODAY’S TIP: Save every receipt, no matter how small. Why “tip” the taxman? Place an envelope in your truck for collecting your receipts and send them at the end of each month to your business services provider, who can then create a monthly profit and loss statement as well as accurate quarterly tax estimates. Your financial services provider will tell you if an item is not tax-deductible.

I am currently running a 3406 E CAT. In approx 10,000 miles I will have 1,000,000 miles on this engine. I change oil every 15000 miles and would like to know if I should shorten the interval between changes?

Closing in on a million miles! Congratulations. Sounds like you’re doing an excellent job putting it all together – good maintenance practices, good engine, engine oil analysis, good driving habits, and ROTELLA T.

Your 15,000 mile change interval should be okay. You may consider shortening the drain interval somewhat if:

1)You idle your engine for extended periods or,

2)Your oil analysis indicates the need for a change.

As long as your oil analysis indicates the viscosity stays in grade, TBN remains several numbers above three, contaminants aren’t present, and wear metals are acceptable, then you’re in great shape to continue your 15,000 mile drains.
