Sitting pretty

Kevin Roy’s 2000 Peterbilt 379 doesn’t spend its off-road time hidden in the garage. Instead, Roy’s rig sits pretty on the hills of his West Virginia farm for all to appreciate. Roy has outfitted his Peterbilt with gauges, lights and a dropped visor. It has a 550-hp Caterpillar, 18-speed transmission and 3.55 rears. Roy’s most common loads are Pepsi and Kingsford charcoal.

Farm truck

A complete renovation recently turned this 1986 Peterbilt Classic into an air-ride Unibuilt. The fixed-up rig spends most its days at Evans Ranch in Little River, Texas, where its owner, W.C. Evans, says it’s the “shiniest tool in the barn.” The farm truck is powered with a 400-hp Caterpillar engine and geared through a 15-speed Eaton Fuller transmission.

Third generation

When Kyle Knapp of Madison, Neb., goes trucking, he continues a 60-year-old family tradition. Knapp’s father and grandfather began hauling cattle in the 1940s, and with the help of this 2001 International Eagle 9900IX, the youngest of the Knapp trio still hauls livestock today. Knapp’s International is equipped with a C-15 Caterpillar engine, 13-speed transmission and 3.55 rears. His route usually keeps him within 200 miles of Madison, but four months of the year, Knapp hauls cattle out of Montana, Wyoming and the Dakotas.
