Anthony FoxxCharlotte, N.C., Mayor Anthony Foxx has been pegged as outgoing Secretary Ray LaHood’s replacement as the head of the Department of Transportation. President Barack Obama officially made the nomination Monday for the Secretary of Transportation position.
LaHood announced in January he would not be staying as the Secretary of Transportation. He was the only Republican in Obama’s Cabinet in the president’s first term.
To officially become Secretary of Transportation, the Senate must confirm Foxx.
A report from the USA Today says that Foxx has led many large transportation infrastructure projects in Charlotte. He was elected in 2009 — the first Democrat to be elected as Charlotte’s mayor in 22 years — and spoke at the Democratic National Convention in 2009.
Politico in 2011 included him in its “50 politicos to watch” list.
