Ohio’s Interstate 70 westbound rest area has reopened, but two Ohio Turnpike rest areas will close soon for reconstruction for at least 18 months.
The rest area at Exit 210 on I-70 reopened Jan. 7, after shutting for a $23 million, 5-mile interstate upgrade. The eastbound rest area that closed in May will not reopen until November.
The area’s westbound lanes re-opened Dec. 31 while eastbound lanes remain closed for work.
The turnpike’s Mahoning Valley and Glacier Hills service plazas, located near Milepost 237, will shut for reconstruction Jan. 31 and will reopen summer 2012.
During this time, drivers leaving the last Pennsylvania service plaza will have 120 miles before arriving at Ohio’s first service plaza. Eastbound Ohio Turnpike travelers will have 94 miles between the last service plaza in Ohio and the first service plaza in Pennsylvania.
