One20, a fast-growing driver-focused community aimed at making life on the road more convenient, enjoyable and cost-effective, has announced its plans to offer an electronic logging device aimed at independent owner-operators and aptly named the F-ELD. The new platform will be fully compliant, subscription-free, functional and created for the driver, noted Christian Schenk, the community’s founder, President and CEO. “Drivers want something simple, affordable and compliant that won’t force them to give up their privacy – that is exactly why we developed F-ELD.”

It’s a BYOD (“Bring Your Own Device”) ELD with functionality built-in that puts drivers’ interests first. For instance, the app â€śdoesn’t automatically highlight violations” in its display like so many, Schenk says, putting the onus on law enforcement to do its job like it always has. In its roadside inspection mode, a password, furthermore, is required to take the driver back into the main app.

“We push the boundaries of the mandate” in favor of the drivers, Schenk adds, though the company is working with former FMCSA Administrator Annette Sandberg on their pending certification, expected in July.

In addition to its Samsung tablet for drivers, One20 has also designed and launched its own energy shot, at a price point well below the competition’s, Schenk says. “In addition to its Samsung tablet for drivers, One20 has also designed and launched its own energy shot, at a price point well below the competition’s, Schenk says. “

Its intuitive interface, Schenk notes, is 100 percent driver-controlled and accessed through the free app, which will be available in June. The company plans to self-certify F-ELD thereafter. â€śThe industry needs options and not all fleets are looking to acquire the more comprehensive enterprise systems,” said Schenk. One20 is also partnering with the nation’s largest and most recognized brands to bring flexibility and affordability to mixed fleets. PeopleNet and One20, he added, are developing an interface between F-ELD and the PeopleNet system.

The basic engine-connection device in the F-ELD, which pairs with the drivers’ smartphone/tablet running the app, is available for $100 pre-sale via One20.com/ELD, says Schenk. Users of Samsung phones will be able to get it for $80, he adds, of a piece with One20’s overall mission to deliver discounts to community members. Since its launch at the Great American Trucking Show last year, One20 has grown to do so for more than 130,000 people through all its platforms, centered on its mobile app, MyOne20. “Most independent drivers hate the mandate,” said Schenk. “They are afraid of more regulation, higher costs and greater interference in their personal and professional lives. It’s simply crushing the spirit of our membership community, but when drivers speak up, we listen and deliver.”
