Ontario Enforcement Officer Takes Top Inspector Award

Ontario Ministry of Transportation enforcement official Kerri Wirachowsky was the winner of the 2001 Jimmy K. Ammons Grand Champion honors at the ninth annual North American Inspector Championship, which was held Aug. 21-25 in Minneapolis.

Wirachowsky has been an officer with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation since 1990. She won the honor of representing Ontario by participating in a local competition.

“I enjoy the interaction with the drivers and the diversity of the work,” Wirachowsky said when asked what she enjoyed most about her job.

Wirachowsky and 52 other commercial vehicle inspectors from Canada, the United States and Mexico took part in the championship. When not competing, the inspectors took part in training classes covering areas such as driver interviewing techniques, motor coach inspection and cargo tank inspection.

The North American Inspector Competition is sponsored by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance with support from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the Canadian and Mexican governments, and members of the trucking and motor coach industries. The annual competition is held in conjunction with the American Trucking Associations’ National Truck Driving Championships.
