Petro celebrating 40th anniversary through May 31

Petro Stopping Centers is celebrating its 40th anniversary through the end of May.

PetroThe “40-Day Celebration” began April 22 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Petro Stopping Centers and Iron Skillet restaurants.

On April 22, 1975, Petro was founded in El Paso, Texas, as a full-service truck stop. It later extended across the southwest part of the U.S. before expanding nationwide. In 2007, Petro was acquired by TravelCenters of America.

“A lot has changed since 1975 when Petro began, but our homestyle cooking and fast and friendly service hasn’t,” said Tom O’Brien, president and CEO of TravelCenters. “We want to celebrate the past 40 years by giving back to professional drivers who give so much each day on the road.

Every day until May 31 at each Petro location, UltraONE and UltraONE Expediter members who swipe their card at a Petro location kiosk will be randomly selected to win one of a variety of travel store, full-service restaurant and truck service prizes.

Petro Iron Skillet restaurants have been consistently voted best by professional truck drivers for many years. The restaurants will celebrate by offering diners complimentary birthday cake and, while supplies last, commemorative pins.
