I remember that truck when it was new working at Ct. Peterbilt. Berlin, wow where did those years go…Truck looks great!
I pull mostly short haul flatbed/step deck freight. I like a 150 mile radius. If I do move a longer run (say 500/600miles) it’s because the customer wants to move the load badly and is willing to meet our price. We provide a professional service not a damn freight discount club like many of the motor carriers moving flatbed loads. I notice that since a lot of the container hauling companies have entered into flatbed they give ridiculous rates to the customers but if one remains steady the work always comes back around. The class of customer who constantly hassle for the cheapest carrier rate we’re not interested in hauling for them anyway.
Short hauls pay better in van but you have to figure in if their will be a lot of wait time on one end or another. The real long haul rates are junk in van and you have to like the long haul to do them.
