The XE13, a combination of Volvo’s I-Shift automated-manual transmission and an engine with modified software, enables cruise speed at 1,150 rpm at 65 mph. The XE13 package is rated for up to 80,000 pounds with a 425-hp, 1,750 lb.-ft. torque D13 engine. The I-Shift overdrive transmission comes with a 0.78:1 ratio, and the package includes software that facilitates communication between the integrated powertrain components.

Ten-speed automatic transmission
The TC10 10-speed automatic twin-countershaft range-type truck transmission has a torque converter with lockup clutch in place of a standard dry clutch at front. It has helical gears integrated with a twin-countershaft layout for the five forward speeds and the reverse gears in the main box, as well as a two-speed planetary range box at the rear. The transmission’s torque converter multiplies engine torque by 1.67 at startup, which provides a smoother launch and the ability to offer closer gear steps between first, ninth and 10th gears, the company says.

Sleeper AC
A newer version of a battery-powered auxiliary air-conditioning system is available from Red Dot. The Sleeping Well Arctic 2000 Plus system operates when the truck’s engine is off, burning no fuel and producing no emissions. It has an all-12-volt system with twin compressors, upgraded system diagnostics and a wireless remote to control settings. It also has a shore power option and will fit in most sleepers.

The Toyo M157 is a free-rolling axle tire designed for long-haul operations. The M157 is EPA SmartWay verified and features low rolling resistance compounding in the tread and sidewall, and a 13/32-inch tread depth that provides even contact pressure distribution across the tread surface, reducing fuel consumption, the company says.
