Quirky Industry Happenings

FOUR-WHEELERS GET THE POINT

A truck’s premature delivery of screws left 80 vehicles with flat tires on I-65 in west-central Kentucky. The 1-inch sheet-metal screws were accidentally spilled off a tractor-trailer for about 15 miles along the northbound lanes in early December.

Lonnie Nutgrass, owner of Nutgrass Auto, told The (Louisville) Courier-Journal his tow trucks were busy for four hours with crippled vehicles. “They were lined up all along the highway,” Nutgrass said. “I have never seen so many cars in my life.” Nutgrass said some cars had as many as three tires punctured.

You can bet the unidentified trucker didn’t have too many hot-shot four-wheelers coming from behind to cut him off.

OUCH!

Next time you pull out your laptop while in your cab, think twice about where you set it. Reuters news agency reports that Claes-Gorn Ostenson of Sweden, in a letter published in The Lancet medical journal, told how a 50-year-old patient received red skin and a blister on his genitals.

The source? The heat of having his laptop in his lap for an hour, even though he was wearing pants and underwear. And you thought laptops were cool gadgets to work with.

A WAY TO GO WHEN YOU’RE ON THE GO

Here’s yet another in a long line of on-the-road urination systems. Pit Stop, which can be mounted to a sleeper wall, “is spill-proof, leak-proof, odor resistant, and has replaceable liners for a sanitary, germ-free experience,” ex-trucker Jesse Johnson says. This product costs $99.95 and is available for purchase online at www.pitstopinfo.com. Just don’t mistake the storage unit for a fuel container.
