Repaving will bottleneck I-40

An eight-mile segment of Interstate 40 in Arizona from mile 282 the Perkins Valley interchange, to mile 290, the E. Navajo Blvd. interchange in Holbrook, is undergoing a repaving project.

Construction began Monday, April 16, according to The Arizona Department of Transportation. Completion is scheduled for July.

ADOT is removing a layer of existing pavement and repaving the roadway, on and off ramps and some sections of the frontage road at the Perkins Valley interchange.

Work hours will be from 2 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and traffic lanes will be narrowed and the speed limit reduced in work zones. Flaggers will be present to guide vehicles through work areas.

Only two interchanges will be closed at a time. Perkins Valley and the Navajo Blvd. interchanges will be closed together, and Hopi and the E. Navajo Blvd. interchanges will be closed next. Traffic will be able to detour to the next interchange east or west of the ones closed. Message board signs will inform drives when work will be anticipated at specific interchanges.
