Retired Trucker Wins Florida Lottery

“The most I’d won up until today was
about $40.”
– Retired trucker, and millionaire, Jack Park

Jack Park of Zephyrhills, Fla., who retired from Yellow Freight six years ago, might be adjusting his retirement plans: He won a $17 million Florida Lotto jackpot Feb. 9.

“Winning the Lotto feels unusual,” Park told lottery officials. “I never thought I’d have this experience! The most I’d won up until today was about $40.”

Park chose to receive a one-time cash payment of $9.5 million, rather than 30 annual
installments of $647,000.

“I got up early Sunday morning and checked my Lotto numbers in the newspaper like I normally do,” Park said. “I looked at the numbers and said to myself, ‘I got four numbers, I got five numbers, I can’t believe I’ve got all six numbers!’ Then I fired up my computer and checked the numbers on the Lottery’s Web page. I must have checked the numbers a half-dozen times.”

Park said he wants to use some of his winnings on a new motor home and van, a new house, a new boat and a family vacation to visit the Smithsonian museums in Washington, D.C.
