Ricky “Rude” Proffitt outdueled his brother Darren Proffitt to grab his second win in a row, and fifth of the season, in the Minimizer Bandit Big Rig Series over the weekend at Hickory Motor Speedway in Newton, N.C.
Darren started the race in the pole position, while Ricky started in 10th. The win earns Ricky his fifth $10,000 check of the season and puts him in prime position to claim the first ever points championship in the series with just one race remaining on the schedule.
The race began with a pileup on lap two when Justin Ball and Trevor Kruckeberg collided. Kruckeberg spun out, collecting several other racers in the process, including Allen Boles, “88 Mike” Morgan and others.
Ricky “Rude” Proffitt made a last-lap pass on his brother, Darren Proffitt, to claim his second win in a row and fifth of the season.“Justin tried to make it three wide, and he couldn’t get past me,” Kruckeberg said after the crash. “I spun out and we had a massive pileup.”
Darren Proffitt took the lead from Craig Kruckeberg on the restart and led throughout most of the race, leading by as much as the length of a straightaway at one point. After a several laps long battle with Craig Kruckeberg, Ricky Proffitt took over second place and began running down his brother.
With two laps remaining, Ricky caught Darren and got side-by-side with him. As the racers were crossing the start/finish line with one lap to go, Ricky dove underneath Darren and took the lead with the help of lapped traffic. He was able to hold off his brother to claim the win.
“I got off to a good start,” Ricky Proffitt said following the race. “Craig [Kruckeberg] and the other guys are really getting their trucks dialed in. My brother hasn’t won yet, but he’s good with second. I’m not sure if I could have caught him without lapped traffic.”
The final race of the Bandit Series’ inaugural season will take place Saturday, Oct. 28, at Crisp Motorsports Park in Cordele, Ga.
