Road Hunter app updates weather map views

Road Hunter Weather View Out West 2017 01 11 15 31Mikhail Dzarasov, the developer behind the Road Hunter trip-planning smartphone app (Android and iOS), announced that the app’s weather alerts — available in quick map view within the app with expandable information available in one touch — have expanded beyond just severe weather, in response to feedback received from some among its users, accounting for around 30,000 app sessions monthly.

In addition to the National Weather Service’s severe-weather alerts (including those for high winds and storms), the weather map view now also shows wet and snowy weather, too, likewise giving access to an area’s basic forecast.

“We’re getting a lot of emails about how helpful it is” for drivers using the app, Dzarasov says, in planning long-haul routes, particularly this time of year.

In beta now with some users, too, is a function allowing the kind of crowd-sourcing of traffic alerts you see in a variety of consumer and some commercial applications — from road construction to accident tie-ups.

Dzarasov, too, sinceRoad Hunter’s introduction to Overdrive‘s audience last August, has begun work on what he describes as an “enterprise service for trucking companies” separate from Road Hunter.
