The Shell Rotella Road Show trailer — booth No. 19081 at the Great American Trucking Show through Saturday — this year features an enhanced look at oil technology basics with three times the space of the previous trailer. The new design, custom-built by St. Louis-based Craftsmen Industries, affords the opportunity, says Shell Global OEM Technical Manager Dan Arcy, to offer more value to customers at major events and yearlong stops at truck stops and other locations around the country.

Attendees of the Great American Trucking Show will find a private lounge behind the trailer for Shell’s My Miles Matter rewards program customers — and Rotella users can sign up for the program and receive 50 bonus points to put toward various and sundry rewards available.

With bump-out compartments on each side greatly expanding interior floor space in the display trailer, “it’s not nearly as tight” as the previous van, says Arcy, opening up opportunities for the company to conduct personalized “training for customers on the importance of maintenance” and other topics.

In a briefing on the PC-11 oil standard under development, Arcy said his company and partners are looking at release for the year 2016. The new standard, he says, is expected to deliver improved aeration and oxidation properties and, most importantly in today’s world for both truck/engine OEMs and owner-operator customers, further improved fuel-economy for lower-viscosity oils. “Right now, [as an owner-operator] you can take advantage of the 10W30s” for miles-per-gallon improvements as high as 1.6 percent, Arcy says, taking into account appropriateness for the application and engine. “Cummins, Volvo and Mack support the use of 10W30 today,” says Arcy, and low-viscosity oils will perform well “for most over-the-road applications.”

Also find in the Rotella Road Show trailer a display honoring members of the company’s Million Mile Hall of Fame, reserved for haulers who reach a million miles without any major engine work using Shell Rotella T heavy-duty engine oil. Independent owner-operator Jerry Kissinger, pictured below, was the first inductee in 2011. This piston was pulled from a million-mile engine looking, well, somewhat new, wouldn’t you say?
