Saltchuk Resources to buy Interstate Distributor

Interstate Distributor Co. anticipates building business but not changing daily operations after Saltchuk Resources Inc. acquires the transportation company.

On March 31, the McLean family, owners of Tacoma, Wash., based IDC, announced it would be bought by the family-owned Seattle-based Saltchuk.

Saltchuk has transportation and other operating groups and was formerly known as Totem Resources. Bob McLean began IDC as a one-truck company, which the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration lists as having 1,930 trucks and 2,294 drivers.

Salchuk’s expertise and capital resources will help IDC achieve a higher profile, the McLeans said. The buyer will immediately make cash available to build capacity and additional business. When the deal is closed, Saltchuk will replace trucks, bring back contract carriers and expand cash flow and liquidity.
