Whether you’re talking ways to let a trusted mechanic know you appreciate his due attention, speed and ability when working out a problem with your rig or, as in the case of eight or so owner-operators, trucking-company reps and drivers based in and around Fargo/Grand Forks North Dakota, ways to show your appreciation to sandbag fillers at a local elementary school as a river threatens your city, nothing says thanks like a hot pie.

At the instigation in part of driver Stephen Beauclair (pictured), involved in recent efforts to fill 1 million sandbags in preparation for flood season in Fargo, area-school students involved got a treat from truckers hauling the sandbags around the area as a big thanks for their long, hard work. Beauclair (pictured) “started asking all the owner-operators if they wanted to contribute,” he told ValleyNewsLive. Eight or so pitched in, ultimately raising around $1,000 to feed all the volunteers at Sandbag Central in Fargo with fresh, hot pizza. According to the Rochester, Minn., Post-Bulletin newspaper, donations “included a $400 match by Dean Mertz, the general manager of Reile’s Transfer and Delivery.”
A great testament, all in all, to the collective effort of the city’s preparations, but also to the importance of giving credit its reward, where it’s due.
