To cut delivery truck congestion, NYC ushers in cargo bikes
For the next six months, UPS, Amazon, DHL and other package delivery companies will be allowed to park in commercial loading zones usually reserved for just commercial trucks and will not be required to pay meters for parking there during deliveries.

Autonomous retrofitter Embark appears to be hauling Amazon freight in testing
Embark, a startup aiming to develop an autonomous retrofit system for Class 8 trucks, said this week it operated 124,000-plus miles of semi-autonomous testing last year. A photo posted to Reddit this week also shows the company appears to have partnered with major online retailer Amazon.

Spot market data show how dramatically average haul lengths have changed since 2012. The numbers here are based on averages calculated from loads compiled in DATâs RateView service, which aggregates data on freight actually hauled, with a generally larger decline for reefer than flat or dry van.

Carrier claims Amazon fraudulently skimped on payments
Central Freight filed its lawsuit in a U.S. district court April 27. The carrier claims Amazon owes Central $2.4 million in past due payments and nearly $1 million for services Amazon withheld but was was contractually required to award to the carrier. Amazon did not respond to a request for comment.
