PDI to pay $1.1 million to settle alleged EPA emissions violations
PDI’s currently line of Big Boss tuners and manifolds are unaffected by the settlement, the company said. Additionally, PDI said its current products are covered by executive orders from the California Air Resources Board to verifying that its tuners meet both California and EPA emissions requirements.

Two large fleets fined by EPA for California emissions violations
According to EPA, Schneider and Old Dominion “failed to install particulate filters on some of their heavy-duty diesel trucks and failed to verify that trucks they hired for use in California complied with the state rule.” The companies will pay a combined $225,000 in penalties and $575,000 for air filtration upgrades at schools.

According to the public comments, there is no general industry consensus on the issue. Owner-operators mostly sounded off in favor of EPA’s move to rescind the regulations, while representatives from fleets, truck OEMs, dealers and environmental groups want to keep the regulation as-is.
