The amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry fell 0.8 percent in March from February, declining after a one-month increase.
For-hire transportation freight fell 3.6 percent in January from December but was 1.6 percent higher than in January 2011.
Freight TSI rose 0.1 percent in November from October and 4.8 percent from a year earlier.
The index is 4 percent higher than in October 2010.
September’s Freight TSI was 4.3 percent higher than a year earlier.
The amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry rose to the highest level since July 2008.
Freight TSI remained at the second highest level since August 2008, exceeded only by March and equaled by June.
Although freight fell from April, May shipments rose 1.4 percent from a year earlier.
