Though the ongoing strikes by United Auto Workers at General Motors appear to be nearing an end, some carriers have been hit hard by the lingering work stoppage, with one reporting having laid off more than 50 drivers and losing more than $100,000 a day in revenue.

The fleet deployed text messages and emails to workers that day notifying them of the closure, leaving its roughly 500 drivers stranded without jobs, pay, access to fuel or even a way home, according to accounts posted to Facebook and local news reports.

General Motors and Navistar have reached a long-term agreement to develop and assemble medium-duty, conventional cab Class 4 and 5 commercial vehicles, the companies announced Sept. 29, confirming rumors of late that the two were set to strike a deal on medium-duty vehicles.
