While through-trucks are not allowed to take I-85 through downtown Atlanta where the collapse occurred, the number of vehicles that had to be rerouted onto I-285, I-20 and other highways and surface streets clogged traffic around the city during the repair process.

Just six weeks after a March 30 bridge collapse on I-85 in Atlanta snarled traffic around the city, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal announced Wednesday the interstate will reopen by the morning rush hour on Monday, May 15, and possibly sooner.

I-85 lanes closed indefinitely in Atlanta, causing major traffic disruptions
All lanes of I-85 north and south are closed indefinitely from the downtown connector to Georgia Highway 400. While most trucks are required to use I-285 to go around the city, the closure of one of the main thoroughfares out of Atlanta will cause backups on other routes.
