CVSA to conduct inspections

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance will conduct roadside inspections Oct. 16-22 as part of its Operation Safe Driver campaign to increase traffic safety awareness, seat belt enforcement and driver regulatory compliance. The inspections will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico as part of the program’s original mission with its 2007 start to decrease crashes involving trucks, buses and cars.

England unveils LNG fleet

A new fleet of liquefied natural gas tractors will be used in Ontario, Canada, C. R. England announced of its dedicated division there. The tractors and trailers were present for inspection when the announcement and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the Ontario Convention Center Oct. 11. The fuel is touted as being nontoxic, abundant and having fewer greenhouse gases than gasoline or diesel fuels.

Siphiwe Baleka, a driver for Prime, Inc., won the male 40-44 division of the Powerman Muncie Sprint Triathlon Saturday, Oct. 1, with a time of 1:09:32. Trucker Buddy honors teacher

Kristen Belcher, a teacher at Kaufman Elementary School in Spring, Texas, is June’s Teacher of the Month for nonprofit outreach Trucker Buddy International. Belcher’s third-grade class is paired with Titan Express driver Russell James, who shares his trucking experiences with the students. James said he nominated Belcher because she is knowledgeable about trucking, explains the industry’s importance to her students and that she maintains classroom cooperation during James’s visits.

Loves opens new Fla. stop

A new Love’s Travel Stop is open in Cottondale, Fla., at exit 130 off Interstate 10. The stop has 98 truck spaces, DEF dispensers at the diesel islands, CAT scales, five showers, RFID cardless fueling technology and a Love’s Truck Tire Care center. Prime hosts driver picnic

Prime Inc., held company picnics for drivers and their families Sept. 3 in Springfield, Mo., Pittston, Pa., and Salt Lake City. The picnics included inflatable games and water slides, face painting and various casino-style games. The Missouri picnic had the biggest turnout with 1,400 attendees. Prime’s Springfield picnic also included a truck driving championship competition, a Pride & Polish truck contest and a raffle.
