Prime Inc. increases pay per mile to independent contractors

Independent contractors in reefer and flatbed segments will have minimum pay set at $1.02 per mile starting June 1, said John Hancock, Prime Inc.’s recruiting director. The increase is available to all new and existing operators. The Springfield, Mo.-based carrier pays its contractors 72 percent of revenue. “With our freight network, we’re confident of our ability to pay 72 percent and still go no lower than $1.02 per mile plus the fuel surcharge,” Hancock said. Prime Inc. donates to Joplin tornado relief

Prime Inc., has sent two 53-foot refrigerated trailers filled with food, water, clothing and supplies to victims of the devastating tornado that tore through Joplin, Mo., a Prime spokesman said. In addition, Prime associates and President Robert Low have contributed more than $10,000 to the local Red Cross for food and supplies. The company is also providing water to Freeman Hospital in Joplin, the only working hospital in the area.

Leased owner-operator Siphiwe Baleka, with Springfield, Mo.-based Prime Inc., won two national championships at the 2011 U.S. Masters Swimming Spring Nationals in Mesa, Ariz., on Friday, April 29.
