Rates find solid footing in April, flatbed soars
Per-mile spot market rates for all three major truckload segments — dry van, reefer and flatbed — rose in April, according to data from Truckstop.com. The gains are in line with seasonal trends, but they could also reflect the beginning of a rate swell predicted by trucking analysts to occur this year.

Last week on the spot market, the load-to-truck ratio for outbound loads in the Los Angeles area shot up to about 7 load postings on DAT’s load board per one truck posting. The average is about two loads to one truck. The recent imbalance in loads to trucks puts upward pressure on rates.
